Guangdong Project Office
The Guangdong Project Office was established in Guangzhou in January 2005 and started building in Guangdong in June 2005. Habitat Guangdong is currently working in partnership with the Guangdong and Guangzhou Disabled Persons Federations, the Shaoguan and Qujiang Communist Youth League, and the Guangdong Lions Club District 381 to provide housing solutions in poor rural communities.
The Habitat for Humanity Guangdong Project Office is committed to working with partners to eliminate poverty and substandard housing in south China and provide simple, decent, and long-term shelter for those in need. Current plans call for completing more than 1000 houses within FY07-FY09.

Post-flood
Rehabilitation in Meizhou municipality

Guangdong
– Post-flood Rehabilitation Project
Construct 110 houses using
Post-flood Rehabilitation model of HFH to provide decent
shelters for people whose houses were destroyed by flood
in four villages in Quijiang district, Shaoguan.
Progress to date: Project
commenced from September 2006 and completed in January,
2007; in cooperation with
Communist Youth League (CYL), Rural Credit Cooperatives
(RCC) in Shaoguan, local government officials and village
staff.
RMB $850,000 as Save and Build Housing Loan allocated
to support the house building cost for 82 households.
A disaster relief grant of total RMB 200,000 was allocated
to support 28 families which had more difficulty in repaying
the loans. The farmers will repay the loans in five years,
and both the CYL and the RCC will assist in monitoring
the loan repayment throughout the project period. |
