Build with Habitat
Seeking Diverse, Dedicated Volunteers No Experience Required
Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Get ready to change the world and to be changed in the process.
Building Bridges, Building Hope
Working with Habitat is often a life-changing experience. Participants learn about poverty housing, development challenges and Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness worldwide. Team members give of themselves as they work alongside homeowners and local volunteers of all backgrounds, races and religions. Learning about the host community’s culture, language and social practices as well as developing new skills and confidence are additional benefits of participating in a volunteer trip.
A Journey of Discovery and Transformation
SEE first-hand how poverty housing undermines the life chances of children and adults alike
ROLL UP your sleeves to build houses and communities for people in need
EXPERIENCE the sights, sounds and adventure of living and working with people from different cultures and traditions
BUILD friendships that transcend borders
WITNESS and share the joy that comes when a family you have worked with receives the keys to their new Habitat home
BE part of an international movement to create a world where everyone has a proper home
The volunteer program consists of short-term house-building trips designed to give concerned people the opportunity to observe and contribute to Habitat’s work first hand. Volunteer building trips can last anywhere from one day to one week, and each is handled on an individual basis to make sure it suits both your needs and provides a meaningful solution for home partners. Work on a volunteer project may involve laying bricks and mixing mortar, digging foundations, pouring cement, or plastering the walls. It is a fun and extremely rewarding way to contribute to society. As partners, team members help build a true "global village" of love, homes, communities and hope!
Travel
Every Habitat trip is different and each team member can expect to gain a unique set of experiences and memories. Itineraries are balanced with plenty of work, rest and free time. Most teams spend a few daysdepending on the length of the triptouring local historic sites or attractions or participating in outdoor recreational activities. Volunteers form a once-in-a-lifetime team as they travel, live, work and eat together.
Cost and Schedule
Trip costs depend on the site visited, the length of the trip and the type of itinerary. The cost of a Habitat trip is divided into two parts: the expenses and donation toward the host community’s building program. All trip costs include meals, lodging and transportation. Cost of travel from your home to one of our project offices where your trip will begin is not included in the cost. Generally, the expense portion of a trip is approximately $20 per person per day.
Some participants cover all of their costs, while many others engage in fund-raising campaigns. We can help you with fund-raising.
